Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Gerald Toland
Dr. Gerald Toland is a professor of economics and agriculture at Southwest Minnesota State University. He has taught courses for 27 years and is also the Chair of SMSU’s Agriculture, Culinology® and Hospitality Management (ACHM) department. Before joining SMSU, Dr. Toland taught in the economics department at South Dakota State University.
Dr. Toland has an avid interest in promoting agricultural production growth in balance with conservation economics. He believes in the wise use of Earth’s resources for the betterment and nourishment of humanity now and in the future. He also respects new technologies’ role in maintaining the balance between productivity growth and economic resource use.
In 2003, Dr. Toland received a Cathy Cowen Award for Service to the University and the Community. He received his bachelor’s degree at Pennsylvania State University and master’s and doctoral degrees at Michigan State University.
